Support for Learning

Co-operative Teaching

Where a SfL teacher will teach with the class teacher, often introducing new teaching styles and resources. SfL staff may introduce differentiated materials for pupils who require a different approach in the class.

Consultancy

Where we are asked by staff for advice on learning difficulties and strategies which work. Pupils requiring additional support will have a Pupil Information Document written by SfL staff and shared with all teaching staff. This will include suggestions of strategies which will help that particular pupil.

SfL staff also receive referrals from teaching staff and parents/carers. This may result in screening for dyslexia and other learning difficulties. Parents/carers will be informed if this is the case.

Direct Teaching And Support For Groups

For some pupils extracted time in SfL is required. We run Reading Groups in S1 and work with some pupils in other year groups who require alternative qualifications, spelling support or overlearning. This year we are introducing SQA Digital Papers so will be working with pupils involved in this to ensure they are ready for tests and final exams.

Liaison With Specialist Services

This may be consultation with, or referral to, the Educational Psychologist, School Doctor, Literacy services or IT support.

Pupils with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) which focus mainly on learning targets, will be monitored and reviewed by SfL. Parents/carers will be invited to an Annual Review and kept informed of any changes to the IEP.

Staff Development

SfL staff are committed to their own professional development. SfL offer a programme of events for school staff, often in response to an enquiry. Staff are invited to join focus groups when running.
