Study Leave & Summer School

The following information sets out the JYHS study leave arrangements for 2019, these arrangements are line with the West Lothian Council guidelines,

• The SQA Exam timetable is available on SQA Website, SQA Exam Timetable 2019 (opens new window)
• The dates for Study Leave are Thursday 25 April to Wednesday 29 May (inclusive).
• All S5/6 pupils are able to take the whole study period. However, they are expected to attend the
  relevant Immersion Classes (April/May 2019)
• S4 pupils who have 5 or 6 National 5 exams are able to take the whole study leave period. However,they are expected to attend the relevant Immersion Classes (April/May 2019).
• S4 pupils who have 4 National 5 exams are able to take the whole study leave period but will be
  required to complete an employability research project during the time when they are not in school. This will be issued in due course. They are also expected to attend the relevant Immersion Classes (April/May 2019)
• S4 pupils who have 3 or less National 5 exams, including pupils studying only National 3 or National 4 courses, are required to attend Summer School. Please note, any pupil who has a National exam is entitled to take two days study leave before the exam as well as the day of the exam. They are also expected to attend the relevant immersion classes. The study leave days for your child will be outlined on their SQA Exam Timetable 2019 (opens new window). Outwith study days and Immersion Classes (April/May 2019) pupils should attend summer school.
• Pupils are entitled to come in to school to study on study leave days but must sign in at the school office so that we are fully aware of who is in the building and must wear school uniform to ensure they are easily identifiable as pupils of our school.

Summer School

Summer School is a programme of lessons, events and activities which, if completed successfully, will lead to an SQA Employability Award. It is an extremely valuable experience for our pupils and will help them gain employability skills and develop their awareness of the world of work. The programme will include activities to develop employability skills such as planning and organising an event. The Summer School programme will be delivered by a wide range of school staff along with local employers/outside agencies. More details will be provided directly to pupils before Easter.
Pupils who are expected to attend part or all of the Summer School will be contacted directly before the Easter holidays.

Information will also be published on the school exam noticeboard in the dining hall for pupils to check.

New Timetable
All pupils returning for next session should return to school on 30 May for an invaluable 2 day Senior Phase Leadership Induction Programme which will prepare pupils for the demands of the senior phase.
